Notes - Skidmore Muncy first appeared in court records August 23, 1762 when he signed a document with his brother, Francis, relative to the support of Jean Scott, orphan sister of his wife, Mary Scott Muncy. (Augusta County, Court Records)
Skidmore acquired land in Augusta County, Virginia. He was an active citizen while living in Augusta Co., VA. He left the county before 1775 and appears in Fincastle Co., VA on 2 May 1775. He is listed on the Wythe Co. tax lists for 1793-96.
He served in Captain McCorkle ’s Company (5 Sept 1777) and in Captain Patton ’s Company (24 May 1781) during the Revolutionary War. At the Court held in Montgomery County, VA on 2 Apr 1782, he is paid 15 £ for wintering Beef for the Continental Army (OBK - Page 765).
He was selected as Guardian for Samuel Scott Jr. (brother of his wife) after the death of his father.
He was in Augusta Co. by 1762: Francis Muncy was first documented in Augusta County, Virginia on August 23, 1762, when he with his brother, Skidmore Muncy, signed a document relative to the support of Jean Scott who was the orphaned sister of Skidmore Muncy’s wife, Mary Scott.
On May 2, 1767, he and his brothers, Skidmore and William, signed a petition for a road on “the Great Road to the Court House which will be the convenient road to travel from North or South to Mill or to Market.” [8]
